2014: The bands you need to look out for!

Here we are again, the start of a new year. As ever, there’s always a ton of new artists trying to make their mark on the music industry in a time where less and less artists are gaining the recognition they so badly deserve. 2013 saw the likes of Haim, Chvrches and Imagine Dragons start to make a lasting impression with their successes travelling through into 2014. With a wave of amazing acts having surfaced in the last few months, which seem most likely to become a successful act this year? Read on to find out which three acts we’ve tipped for success the most…

TEMPLES
The story of Temples stretches back into the early months of 2013, yet with debut album Sun Structures just around the corner it seems that these psychedelic rockers are going all out to make 2014 their year. Early single Shelter Song shot them into the public eye with magazines such as NME championing their fuzzy riffs, woozy melodies and retro production. Psychedelic rock is in the midst of a major musical comeback, with other great acts like Tame Impala and Toy also carrying the mantle for this brilliant genre. If Temples keep on doing what they’re doing right now, it looks like 2014 will be an unforgettable year for the Kettering quartet.
Sun Structures is released on 10 February via Heavenly Recordings.

THE FAMILY RAIN
Despite having formed in 2011 with a number of EPs and popular singles behind their back, The Family Rain are only now gearing up for the release of their debut album, Under the Volcano. A powerful combo of sprawling blues melodies and fuzzy guitars riff have made this sibling trio a force to be reckoned with. They’ve toured with the likes of Miles Kane, Jake Bugg and Biffy Clyro – all three of which formed a perfect springboard for this band to reach a wider audience. With the mesmerizing riff of Trust Me…I’m a Genius and the dirty fuzz of Pushing It, these guys are on course to be one of the best rock acts around right now.

SAINT RAYMOND
Our 3rd tip for success this year comes in the shape of Nottinghamshire’s very own Callum Burrows, aka Saint Raymond. Burrows and his band combine poppy, indie rock melodies and heartfelt lyrics with pouncing percussion and large choruses. Towards the end of last year, he toured with Haim through Europe and the UK whilst also being tipped by many as a breakthrough star. Recent single Young Blood showed a more upbeat side, despite his amazing ability to churn out emotional hits such as Letting Go and arena-ready sing-a-longs like Fall At Your Feet. With just two EPs behind his back and a headline UK Tour coming up in March, 2014 is already shaping up to be a busy year for the teenager.

So there you have it, three bands that are surely tipped for success in 2014! Of course it’s likely that plenty more acts will get considerable recognition, so it’s wise to mention some other acts that are on course for similar successes. In the world of electronic music, we should definitely start getting used to seeing the mysterious JUNGLE pop up, following their debut smash Platoon, whereas BANKS is starting to ruffle feathers on the other side of the Atlantic with her simplistic beats and smooth vocals. Liverpudlian rockers CIRCA WAVES and Brighton duo ROYAL BLOOD are also set for major success with their brand of heavy and catchy rock; with the latter set to support Arctic Monkey’s in London this summer. RADKEY and SKATERS both offer up Ramones-esque punk rock and look set to become reckonable forces in the world of rock, whereas TELEGRAM and COURTNEY BARNETT also look set to gain some well-deserved recognition. The list is endless, so if this doesn’t do enough for you then we’d recommend you also check out CHILDHOOD, SPEEDY ORTIZ and THE WYTCHES.

We’ll be back in a few months to check out how the year has shaped up so far, and if any of these bands have achieved successes!
