Over the last couple of months, Ryan Adams has been recording and reworking his own cover version of Taylor Swift’s monolith record 1989. The final product, which was released yesterday, is every inch the intriguing opus it set out to be. However, not everyone seems to like it. US folk rocker Father John Misty has subtly hit back at Adams by releasing his own Swift covers, recorded in the style of The Village Underground.

Misty first took to Twitter to announce the songs, stating sarcastically that they came from “Ryan Adams’ classic album 1989″. Misty, real name Josh Tillman, subsequently put out covers of two Swift songs, namely Welcome to New York and Blank Space. Both songs were recorded in the style of The Village Underground.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, both covers have since been removed from Misty’s Soundcloud page. However, it’s likely that they’ll resurface soon, so keep an eye out for any developments on Tillman’s Twitter account. In the meantime, you can listen to I Love You, Honeybear by Father John Misty below.
