Underøath are the kind of band who possess the ability to define the sonic direction of an entire generation of new bands, and there’s no doubt that this is still the case even in 2018. Having just put out the defiant Erase Me, you could suggest that Aaron Gillespie and co. have become stronger than ever before, breaking boundaries which didn’t even exist during their first stint as a band back in the second half of the 2000s. Before the sextet step on a plane to Europe for a handful of summer festivals and headline shows, they stopped off at Piere’s in Fort Wayne for a show which can be described as nothing short of a visceral spectacle which justifies exactly why the band are one of the alternative’s scenes most exciting. Christian Sarkine checked it out.
Erase Me is out now.
