Jungle – Busy Earnin’ (Single Review)

As ever, London collective Jungle are shrouded in secrecy as their brand new single Busy Earnin’ receives its radio premiere. The duo rose to prominence with the classic singles Platoon and The Heat, the former being an RnB smasher whilst the latter showcased Jungle’s funk and groove skills. 2014 is set to be the year where Jungle hit the big time, even more so considering the publicity surrounding their mysterious image. Jungle is merely the name, as there are no faces which we can put to the name. On singles Platoon and The Heat, hip hop dancers and rollerskaters take the spotlight, and even live we can’t be totally sure which of the 8 musicians are J and T, the founding members of the group. What we can be sure of, though, is that Jungle are one of the most exciting groups in recent times.

New single Busy Earnin’ premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show last night, and once again showcases Jungle’s best aspects. Encompassing double-tracked vocals (which give off that amazing 70s sound), epic-yet-funky horns and a fantastic groove, this is one of the finest songs of 2014 so far. Busy Earnin’, just like the rest of Jungle’s output thus far, can’t be faulted in the slightest and proves to us that, despite all the mystery, there’s a lot to get excited about this year…
