King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard Embrace Thrash on Ritualistic New Single

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are back. Yes, you read that right. After releasing five albums in 2022 (three of which in October), the Australian six-piece will unleash the brutal PetroDragonic Apocalypse on 16 June. Today, they unveiled its lead single.

Gila Monster is an unforgivingly heavy four-minute behemoth which takes its cues from thrash and pirate metal, with frontman Stu Mackenzie and multi-instrumentalist Ambrose Kenny-Smith trading off vocals throughout. The band previously debuted the song during their recent European tour.

It’s accompanied by a number of menacingly titled tracks on the new album, among them the nine-minute Flamethrower and vinyl-only Dawn of Eternal Night (featuring Leah Senior). The album’s full title is a mouthful, namely: PetroDragonic Apocalypse or Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.
