2024 was a wild year! I was on tour with Will Butler + Sister Squares, and we got to travel around the world — which included my very first trip to Spain, and my second trip to Riga, Latvia (which has become one of my favorite cities in the world)! I got to play at festivals in Nijmegen, the Portuguese countryside, and a tiny island off the coast of Galicia, Spain. I traveled by plane, train, car, and boat, by foot up cobblestone streets in Lisbon and across the Thames in London in the rain. At home in Brooklyn, I wrote and released my first release under my solo project Julie Square.
All that time on various vehicles meant lots of opportunities for discovering new music. Here are some of the songs I loved this year!
Tertia – Cheerleader – Mark my words, this artist is going places!
Lizzie Loveless – Je T’aime – A devastating and gorgeous track from a fellow Brooklyn artist and friend.
Little Simz – Mood Swings – The production on this whole album is just so cool.
Marina Herlop – Babel – I continue to be absolutely haunted by this song, and totally inspired by this masterful Spanish artist.
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross – Yeah x10 – What can I say, I loved Challengers, and I love listening to this song when I run errands.
Here’s to new adventures and discoveries in 2025. Happy new year!
