Viet Cong to Change Name

Post punk quartet Viet Cong have announced plans to change their name. The move comes after months of planning which were spurred by controversy surrounding their choice of moniker.

In a lengthy post on their Facebook page, the Canadian outfit said that they’ve been planning to change their name for quite some time. “The truth is, we’ve been planning to change the band name for the next record for months” said the band, adding that it wasn’t an easy decision to make.

The band further added that “there are many individuals more eloquent than us who have recently had a lot to say about the topic of the name and our appropriation of the name Viet Cong. For more insights into the arguments we encourage you to read some of these. We are a band who want to make music and play our music for our fans. We are not here to cause pain or remind people of atrocities of the past.” You can read the full post here.

The band haven’t thought of a new name yet, with the decision in the process of being made right now. Earlier this year, Viet Cong released their self-titled debut album through Jagjaguwar. Listen to Continental Shelf below.
