In a development that feels both futuristic and deeply stupid, all four members of AI-generated band The Velvet Sundown have been killed during a data centre power outage. Researchers tried turning it off and on again, but alas; no one’s favourite band sadly perished.
The “group”, which existed entirely as a collection of models generating music, lyrics, and moody branding, vanished instantly when its servers went offline. It was not a painful death, but rather one which begged a question: “do the lives of AI generated musicians matter?“
The answer, obviously, is no. And although engineers attempted a revival, they eventually had the honest realisation that absolutely no one liked The Velvet Sundown enough to care if they died.
Fingers crossed for more outages in the future. We’re not linking any of their music below, out of respect for real musicians.
