After having been shrouded in and amongst a large cloud of mystery since last album Ultraviolence, Lana Del Rey has finally returned with a brand new single – High By the Beach. The track is taken from upcoming third record Honeymoon, which is slated for a September release.
Although the track leaked over the weekend, it was officially premiered tonight on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, accompanying an interview with Del Rey herself. You can find the interview here.
High By the Beach sees Del Rey utilizing a different approach to her RnB flecked doom soul, with the track placing a heavier emphasis on electronic drums, bassy synths and vocal effects. “All I wanna do is get high by the beach” she sings during the chorus, before her vocoder-laced verses add an eerie sense of fragility to proceedings. It’s everything you could ever expect from Del Rey, meaning that Honeymoon will be nothing short of ‘hotly anticipated’.
