Roadburn Festival is an event like no other, which is likely why a weekend at the Tilburg bash will leave you with feelings indescribable at best and somewhat cathartic. Even though the Dutch heavy music festival – which attracts crowds from across the globe – prides itself on cutting edge performances and collaborations, it’s much more than just a standard festival. On the contrary: Roadburn Festival is a cultural experience, one which elevated itself to even higher heights during an exemplary 2018 edition. With a line-up which boasted the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Converge and a Japanese Psych Experience featuring Kikagaku Moyo and Minami Deutsch (lest we forget the presence of an entire San Diego scene spearheaded by Earthless), Roadburn really did just have it all this year. Susana Martins spent four days writhing her way through Tilburg’s vast, black t-shirt clad crowds to capture some of the festival’s most spectacular performances. Due to the great amount of footage Susana returned with, we’ve split the coverage into three parts. Find part one below.
