Roadburn Festival is an event like no other, which is likely why a weekend at the Tilburg bash will leave you with feelings indescribable at best and somewhat cathartic. Even though the Dutch heavy music festival – which attracts crowds from across the globe – prides itself on cutting edge performances and collaborations, it’s much more than just a standard festival. On the contrary: Roadburn Festival is a cultural experience, one which elevated itself to even higher heights during an exemplary 2019 edition. With a line-up which boasted the likes of sludge lords Sleep, ethereal Anna von Hausswolff and the spiritual Heilung (to name but three), Roadburn really did just have it all yet again. Susana Martins spent four days writhing her way through Tilburg’s vast, black t-shirt clad crowds to capture some of the festival’s most spectacular performances. Due to the great amount of footage Susana returned with, we’ve split the coverage into parts. Find part one below, which covers the first two days of the festival in alphabetical order.
