Cast your mind back to November 2019. The world was months away from imploding, life seemed to be going pretty okay and Caroline Polachek was on the road in support of her brilliant debut album Pang. That November she performed for just shy of 50 people in Paradiso’s intimate upstairs room, not even coming close to filling a quarter of the room. The support act that evening? Producer Danny L Harle, who Polachek has worked closely alongside ever since. Last night – three years and one sublime new record (last week’s Desire, I Want To Turn Into You) later – she returned to the Dutch capital for a sell out crowd in that same venue’s main room. New album Desire… is one of the best modern pop records of the decade so far, spanning multiple sonic disciplines only strengthened by Polachek’s unique vocals and ethereal production style. For one night only, Caroline Polachek made Amsterdam her island, her playground. A place of freedom and love for herself and 1,500 others. Here are the pictures.
