Whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ll definitely find that you’re extremely familiar with the work of Dutch photographer Hans-Peter van Velthoven. With his roots in the city of Nijmegen, Hans-Peter (commonly referred to as HP, or HP-PH) has worked with some of the world’s biggest and most renowned artists, among them Muse, Stereophonics and James Bay. We asked him to show us his five favourite live shots from over the course of the last twelve months, along with a little explanation as to why each particular image stood out to him.
“This is one of the most exciting and beautiful spaces where I’ve been able to photograph – Alcobaça in Portugal. The band is called The Gift! This shoot was for their most recent studio album, which was produced by none other than Brian Eno.”“This is Lucas Hamming at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. The show was so extremely awesome, and Lucas is very down to earth. Great setlist, lovely interaction and extremely photogenic.”“This is Nothing But Thieves at the AFAS Live. What a band! They’re so extremely good, well balanced, pure, raw, tender, energetic and emotional. Take a bow!!!”“This is Green Day, live at Pinkpop. Look, see, experience and feel!”
“And finally, Muse live at Reading Festival in the UK. This is Matt Bellamy’s mighty pose as frontman of this fantastic band, with whom I’ve been touring for 11 years”.
