It’s been exactly one week since Kevin Parker and his consorts in Tame Impala made their grand return to the live stage, taking on Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival for their first show in Europe since Melt! Festival in July 2016. That show served as the last mainland outing for critically acclaimed third album Currents, a record which rocketed Tame Impala into the upper echelons of indie and psychedelic rock the world over. With a fourth album supposedly on the way, were we set to hear anything new in Madrid? Unfortunately not, but this didn’t stop a packed out field from going mad to some of the tunes which have made Tame Impala such an iconic outfit. From the confetti-laden Let it Happen and Feels Like We Only Go Backwards to scuzzy Elephant and Keep on Lying‘s first outing in five years, Tame Impala well and truly cemented their status as gods reincarnated despite the considerable lack of new music. The brand new Deluxe edition of Currents is out now.
