Rock legend Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66.
Reports claim that the musician suffered a “full cardiac arrest” at his home in Malibu today, with TMZ reporting that his life support had been turned off following signs of no brain activity. CBS have since announced that the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed this news.
Petty had just rounded up a full American tour with his band The Heartbreakers, having performed at the 17,000-capacity Hollywood Bowl just last week. This tour was in celebration of his band’s 40th anniversary.
Throughout his career, he’d sold in excess of 80 million records. This makes him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He leaves behind two daughters and a wife, Dana York.
We’d like to send our condolences to Petty’s family and friends during this difficult time.
